The doctor called for additional nursing support.

Meanwhile, another security officer approached Margot from the side.

“Ma’am, I’m going to ask you one last time to hand the baby to the nurse.”

Margot looked down at Owen.

His tiny face was red from crying, his fists trembling beside his cheeks.

For the first time, her expression softened.

“Oh, sweetheart,” she whispered. “Grandma’s going to take you home. You’re going to have a proper family.”

My heart seemed to stop.

“His family is here,” I said.

Margot raised her eyes toward me.

“You have no idea what you’re doing to this family, Imogen.”

“No,” I replied, my voice growing stronger despite the pain. “You have no idea what you’ve done to mine.”

The nurse carefully approached her.

“Please give him to me.”

Margot hesitated.

Frank’s voice became firm.

“Now.”

Finally, she handed Owen to the nurse.

The moment his tiny body was safely in the nurse’s arms, I began to cry.

Not loudly.

Not dramatically.

The tears simply came, slipping down my temples as I watched the nurse check his breathing and carry him toward my bedside.

“It’s okay, sweetheart,” I whispered. “Mommy’s here.”

The nurse placed him carefully in my arms.

Owen’s cries gradually softened as I held him against my chest.

Frank turned to another officer.

“Notify hospital administration. Preserve the security footage, document the incident, and contact the appropriate authorities. We need a formal report.”

Margot spun around.

“You cannot do this to me! My son is a successful businessman. He knows people on this hospital’s board!”

Frank looked unimpressed.

“Then he can speak with the hospital’s administration after the patient has been stabilized.”

Margot’s gaze darted around the room.

Then she looked at me again.

“Imogen, tell them to stop. You don’t want this becoming a scandal.”

I stared at her.

“You struck me after major surgery, took my newborn from his bassinet, and demanded that I surrender him to your daughter.”

“I was trying to help Bridget!”

“You were trying to take my child.”

“Because you don’t deserve him!”

The words came out before she could stop herself.

Silence fell over the room.

Even Margot seemed startled by what she had said.

I looked down at Owen, then back at her.

“Thank you,” I whispered.

She frowned.

“What?”

“For finally saying the quiet part aloud.”

The physician finished his initial assessment and instructed the nurses to continue monitoring me closely. My incision needed to be checked, and they wanted to make sure the sudden pain and dizziness hadn’t indicated a complication.

Frank remained near the doorway.

Then he asked me quietly, “Your Honor, would you like us to contact your husband?”

“Yes. Graham should be on his way back. Please tell him to come directly to this room.”

“Of course.”

He paused.

“Would you also like us to notify your chambers?”

I considered the question.

Not because I was afraid of Margot.

Because I knew what would happen once my husband’s family discovered exactly who I was.

“Yes,” I said. “Contact my judicial assistant. Ask her to reach my chief of staff and let them know I’m safe, but that I may need assistance coordinating with hospital administration.”

Frank nodded.

“Understood.”

Margot stared at me as though I had started speaking a foreign language.
